Siberian Fajitas (Reprised)
October
21, 2011
We concluded our
two-weeks of Practically Speaking English in Siberia with a return to
"Amigo's" for some Mexican food. The fajitas were great
and they made me hungry for Tex-Mex. We were in this same
restaurant last year, celebrating our 2010 ministry in Novosibirsk.
This year, we
were celebrating ministry in two cities. Krasnoyarsk and
Novosibirsk-Akademgorodok both lie on the Tran-Siberian Railroad and
are two of the largest cities in all of Russia.
Coincidentally,
on the return flight over the Atlantic, I watched a movie called
"Transsiberian". I'm not particularly recommending the
movie, but it tells of a young couple returning from a mission trip to
China. Instead of flying, they decide to take the Trans Siberian
Railroad to Moscow. It is a pretty violent movie about drug
smuggling and the human condition, but if you want to see what
the train ride is like, check out this movie. (We traveled this
same railway in the same type of train car from Krasnoyarsk to
Novosibirsk.)
The report
on these two great weeks of ministry can be found
below.

$5000 Matching Fund
|
Help us match the $5000
gift. Click here to learn how.
|
Thanks to
several generous donors, we are making progress toward our goal
of $5000 so we can receive the $5000 matching gift. However,
we still have not reached that goal.
Perhaps
you have never donated to our ministry and you want to make a
one-time gift. That would be great. Remember, every $1
that you donate will be matched (up to the $5000 that has been
offered).
We are so
very grateful to those who have already given toward our goal.
We pray that you will consider our work an extension of your personal
ministry.

Report on PSE in Siberia - Krasnoyarsk and
Novosibirsk-Akademgorodok, Russia. Two great Russian cities,
two great weeks of Kingdom work.
|
Joe Wilson put together a great video of
these events (watch it on YouTube).

The banner
in this photo advertises our Practically Speaking English course in
Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Its placement on one of the busiest
thoroughfares in the city resulted in more than 800 pre-registrations
for the course. The fact that only 300 actually entered the
Baptist church to complete the registration shows just how difficult
it is for them to overcome their preconceptions about church and
Baptist churches in particular.
Nonetheless, the results
were very good. 59 prayed to receive Christ and 49 requested
more information about the Christian life.
Here is what our partner,
Joe Wilson, had to say, "We traveled to Krasnoyarsk first and
held our very first English Course there. This event was SUPER.
The Church we started there participated along with several
other Churches. The atmosphere was great and it was very easy
to work there. The local Believers took care of us as we stayed
in their homes.
This was the first time doing the course there so we had no
reputation to work from. We had 800 pre-registered but only 300
actually came. People were hesitant to come to us at a Baptist
Church building because of old propaganda that is still active in
Russian culture. During the time of our Course these myths were
cast away and now we have a great reputation in this city. We
are expecting bigger numbers next year. The results were quite
good and we expect lots of fruit from our work. The local
Churches will continue to work with these people through weekly
English Clubs. We are looking for Americans who might be
willing to move to Krasnoyarsk for 1 or 2 years and teach in these
English Clubs. Its a great opportunity. Please pray about
this."
After Krasnoyarsk we took the overnight train on the Trans Siberian
Railway and traveled to Novosibirsk-Akademgorodok. We have
established a good reputation in that city and had more than 300
students. Of those 49 prayed to receive Christ and 41 asked for
more information about Christian living.

Our 2012 Schedule Is Now
Available
We are challenging ourselves, and you, to reach more people with
the gospel in 2012 than in any previous year.
2011 has been a banner year for our ministry with more events and
more people coming to Christ in Nicaragua than in any year before.
We also entered into new relationships with churches and church
planters in Nicaragua. 2012 will be a year of several new
venues for our Practically Speaking English evangelism and our
medical team evangelism events. That translates into even more
opportunities for reaching people in this country.
To accomplish these goals, we need more resources in the form of
money and manpower than ever before. With the economic
challenges facing our country, this will be a challenge for us and
for you. Our prayer is that many of you who have been in the
field with us before, will join us once again.
We also are praying that those of you who have never joined us in the
field or supported us financially will participate with us directly
as an extension of your personal ministry.
NOTE:
Due to rising airfares, we need commitments much sooner than in years
past. To facilitate this requirement, we have reduced the
deposit amount and made the sign up deadline earlier. See the
event schedule for the specific dates.
